Kirk Douglas was an American actor, director, producer and writer. Douglas made his film debut in The Case of Martha Ivers (1946) opposite Barbara Stanwyck. He soon developed into one of the biggest film stars of the 1950s, known for serious dramas as well as Westerns and war films. During his career, Douglas appeared in over 90 films.Kirk Douglas broke through internationally with the lead role in Champion (1949), for which he was also nominated for an Oscar.) Douglas was nominated for an Oscar for the second time for his role in City of Illusions (1952) and for the third time for his portrayal of Vincent van Gogh in He Who Loved Life (1956). Kirk Douglas lived until the age of 103, when he passed away in 2020. Kirk Douglas was one of the longest-lived stars of Hollywood’s golden age. In 1999, he was named the seventeenth greatest male movie star in American film history by the American Film Institute.
